The Green Man Gallery is a vibrant community gallery and arts centre in Buxton which occupies part of a large Victorian building at the heart of the town. It is managed and run by a team of resident artists and local volunteers and is open to the public on 6 days a week (and every day during July). The gallery exhibits and sells contemporary art and craft from across the region and hosts a varied programme of workshops, classes, live performance and community events.
The gallery has a small number of free parking places for staff, visitors and hirers and is very close to Pay and Display car parks and roadside parking. Buses from Market Place (3 minute walk). Approximately 10 minutes' walk from the train station.
Spaces for hire
1. Ground Floor Gallery - A former ballroom with excellent acoustics and a small corner stage. Arranged as an art gallery with fixed display screens, part of the room can be transformed into an informal 60 seater (maximum) venue suitable for live music, small-scale theatre, spoken word, talks, audio-visual presentations, discussions and debates.
The ground floor can also be hired for receptions and other functions suitable for a gallery setting.
Accessible by wheelchair apart from the stage. Only available for evening hire when the gallery is closed to the public.
2. Workshop Room
A large, light 'empty space' on the mezzanine floor with good natural light and vinyl flooring. A multi-purpose space suitable for a wide range of workshops and classes; as a meeting room; for talks and presentations (maximum 30 seats if set out theatre style); as a rehearsal room for music and drama.
Can be hired throughout the day and on some evenings. Folding tables, chairs and easels are available for hirers to use.
The Workshop Room is reached via a flight of stairs and is not accessible by wheelchair as the building has no lift.
Toilets are on the ground floor. The area is accessible by wheelchairs but there is currently no fully accessible cubicle.
